Back to School
Fall is a busy time. Children go back to school, older kids make the journey to college and work for parents is eternally busy. It is easy to get wrapped up in the chaos of everyday to-dos. In the midst of all the busyness, however, there are simple things that you can do to relieve some of the everyday stress. Here are some simple tips for relieving stress:
• BREATHE. You know the feeling when you have a million things to do and only enough time to do two of those things? This is the moment to take a little time to breathe. Although you have so much to do, you can only do them well if you are taking care of yourself. Even taking just a five minute break to breathe can calm your mind, center yourself for the work ahead, and even lower your heart rate.
• REWARD YOURSELF. After you finish a long day of work, a really big school project or just need a pick-me-up, treat yourself to something that will make you feel appreciated by the most important person in your life, YOU. Taking time to care for yourself-whether that includes getting a pedicure, having a night out (or in), really anything that makes your heart smile-is important for your mental wellness.
• Do something kind for someone else. So often we focus on our own struggles that we neglect those struggles of the people around us. Just as you would want someone to reach out for help when you were having difficulties, so would everyone else! Doing a small favor for someone else can help them out, but it can also make your day a little brighter. Kindness is always free!
Go out and tackle the day! And remember these tips for a less stressful week.
