Areas of Focus

Shane is an individual, couple, and family therapist who treats adults and teens.

He is experienced in helping people who struggle with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, grief, trauma, identity or spiritual issues, problematic substance use, life transitions, and challenges related to interracial or multicultural relationships. In addition to a graduate education that emphasized treating clients in the context of their relationships, he is also trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, a mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy that has demonstrated effectiveness in treating a variety of challenges.

Shane considers one of his primary tools to be his commitment to deeply and openly listening. He also believes that the potential of therapy is maximized when the therapeutic relationship is based on trust, clear roles and boundaries, and a shared sense of adventure. Clients describe Shane as calm, present, gentle, playful, open-minded, and intelligent. They also appreciate his directness and honesty.

Clients usually come to see Shane in order to solve problems, but often come away with a deeper connection with themselves, their loved ones, and their values. Shane sees the ultimate goal of therapy to be to nurture a life that is rich and meaningful, a life in which clients pursue what they care about most.

For fun, Shane likes to play piano, read good fiction, play board games, travel, go bird watching, and spend time with his wife and son.
