Kat Bursky
LPC, Corvallis Practice Supervisor
Areas of Focus
Kat is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with a Masters in Clinical Counseling from Eastern University in St. Davids, PA. Born and raised on the East Coast, Kat is thrilled to be putting down roots in the Pacific Northwest serving the good folks of Corvallis and the larger Willamette Valley with Oregon Counseling.
Kat’s passion is working with survivors of trauma, particularly sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and other forms of interpersonal violence. She has extensive experience working with folks of all ages and gender and sexual identities coping with traumatic experiences, and she most recently spent over three years working exclusively with college students coping with sexual assault. Kat is trained to provide Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, a breakthrough treatment that allows folks to quickly and effectively process traumatic experiences while reducing ongoing emotional distress. Outside of trauma work, Kat enjoys working with mood disorders, LGBTQ+ concerns, family of origin issues, and gender-based empowerment.
Kat works from a psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral lens, exploring how early experiences have influenced our thoughts and behaviors in the present and drawing on each client’s strengths to make change. However, she tailors her treatment approach to each specific client and their unique needs, often borrowing from ACT, DBT, mindfulness, and person-centered modalities. Kat is a genuine, empathetic spirit whose down-to-earth and nonjudgmental attitude, direct manner, and strong observational skills help clients feel comfortable, seen, and valued. Kat’s main goal for her clients is that they feel confident in who they are and their ability to take on whatever life throws their way, and she considers it a genuine privilege and honor to bear witness to the incredible growth and change process.
Outside of the therapy room, Kat is a social justice-minded intersectional feminist who enjoys spending time with her partner and their kitty, reading, and watching movies or reruns of Parks & Recreation and Friends. She finds fulfillment by spending time in nature and having good conversations with good folks over good beverages.
